Overview
Miyagase Ryokan seeks to establish a digital presence independently from third-party booking platforms, aiming to highlight its unique Japanese hospitality experience. This proprietary app, was designed as an academic project to address this gap, offering seamless reservations while immersing users in the ryokan’s traditional aesthetic and services.
Although developed as a case study, designing a seamless and distinctive experience for a traditional ryokan presented noteworthy challenges.
Balancing Tradition with Modern UX: The app needed to honor the ryokan’s cultural identity while maintaining the intuitive navigation users expect from booking platforms.
Third-Party Differentiation: Competing with established travel apps meant the design had to offer unique value, encouraging direct bookings instead of relying on intermediaries.
The final product effectively translated the ryokan’s identity into a digital experience while maintaining intuitive functionality. By integrating familiar features with unique value, the app delivered a seamless and engaging experience for all stakeholders.
